I hope everyone is looking forward to a relaxing weekend. my family and I will be celebrating the Feast of St. Martin which is a hugely popular festival in Scandinavia where we eat goose and celebrate the start of the festivities leading up to Christmas.

The origin of the celebration goes thus: "St Martin of Tours originally took the goose as his personal symbol, because when trying to avoid being ordained bishop he had hidden in a goose pen, where he was betrayed by the cackling of the geese. He celebrates his name day in November, when the geese are ready for killing."

The holiday matters to me since my parents made it very special celebrating it with lovely food and invited family and friends. A tradition I and my family follow every year and lead up to Christmas. In the mainly southern part of Sweden where I originate from, it's almost as huge as Christmas.

Goose is one of my absolutely favourite foods and every restaurant worthy of celebrating in serves it with all the trimmings although we rarely eat out as we far prefer my grandmother's old recipe. More details can be found here.
